Florida customers must meet the requirements of their utility company to acquire an umbrella policy coverage for $1 million of personal liability insurance during the Interconnection/PTO process specifically for the Tier 2 projects - systems larger than 11.76 kW DC.
Utility Requirements
In Florida, most utilities require systems larger than 11.76 kW DC (or 10 kW AC) to maintain general liability insurance for personal injury and property damage in the amount of not less than $1 million. There are a few utilities with exceptions to the rule including:
Orlando (OUC): Tier 2 is considered above 23.5 kW DC
Tallahassee: $100,000 minimum coverage for all system sizes
New Smyrna Beach: 1.5 million minimum coverage required
