The state of California regulates all residential solar transactions to ensure Home Improvement Salespersons (HIS) are properly licensed to conduct business with a Home Improvement Contractor in the state. Please review the applicable steps below to complete the compliance requirements.

What do I need to do?

a) Existing License holders: Provide your existing license information to Palmetto below, to be associated with Palmetto

b) New reps to CA: Apply for a CA HIS Registration

Why do I need a license?

The state of California regulates all residential solar transactions to ensure salespersons are licensed and checked prior to conducting business in the state. Contracts cannot be issued or accepted prior to the full completion of these steps.

All existing license holders must provide Palmetto details of their existing HIS license prior to conducting business. Palmetto will notify the CSLB to confirm the association of your HIS license to Palmetto as the contractor. This step must be completed before any contracts can be issued or accepted in the state.

Disclaimer: Regardless of residency, several items for new HIS registration take place via mail and can take considerable time to complete. Members should bear this in mind, as a business cannot be conducted until registration is complete.

Step/Description

Notes

1) Visit CSLB website by clicking here.

2) Click "Step 2: Applying for HIS Registration" to fill out the form online, then print to finalize.

Some info., such as name/date/SSN, must be written in ink.

3) Finalize form and mail to CSLB. Include the application fee, and a non-refundable check of $83.

We recommend using a trackable shipping envelope.

4) Await fingerprinting instructions. CSLB will mail you instructions, approx. 1-2 weeks

Note: Keep a copy or photo of the forms for reference.

5a) California Residents: Complete Livescan fingerprinting following the instructions found here.

Sales member is responsible for all fees.

5b) Out of State Residents: Request out-of-state fingerprinting documents. Complete & return the following instructions found here

Note: Out-of-state residents can expect a 3-6 month wait.

6) Await application approval and registration proof

1) How many contractors can I associate my HIS license number to?

A: Up to five (5) contractors

2) Can I conduct business and sell while I am applying for my HIS?

A: No, it is illegal to conduct sales business without a complete and valid license. Complete all steps prior to conducting sales activity. Exceptions cannot be granted. Note that members attempting to issue contracts via the Alchemy portal prior to validation will be electronically locked until validation is complete.

3) How do I check the status of my new application?

A: You can view your Application status via the CSLB website, linked above. Note: this feature requires your Application Fee # in order to search. This number is provided in the mailing instructions listed in step 4.

4) Can I sell Sunnova?

Sunnova sales are closed via the Sunnova portal. Members requesting Sunnova logins should do so via our Sunnova login request form if needed.
