Solar projects may be disqualified from final sale by Palmetto design and engineering teams during Site Approval based on the home not having appropriate structural and environmental factors.

Homes disqualified due to these reasons will not move forward to final sale and will be marked Disqualified in the sales platform (see the Operations Overview, Change Orders, and Cancelation Process help article). A solar sale may be disqualified for reasons including, but not limited to:

DQ Updates as of October 2023:

  1. > 60% TSRF Shading Requirement - Removed

    1. In its place Design and Engineering will be looking at the Solar Access percentage per array to determine feasibility for the system.

    2. Any array with a less than 50% Solar Access will be disqualified based on the Aurora Shade report provided at initial design.

  2. Second systems - Approved

    1. D&E will now review all homes where we are selling a second system on the customer's property.

      1. Exception to this rule is in states that do not approve second systems - CT, MA, RI, IL

      2. California - Second systems in LADWP are allowed. However, no second systems in PG&E, SCE, and SDGE at this time as customers risk losing NEM1 or NEM2 grandfathering unless the expansion is configured with battery storage and a non-exporting relay device.

  3. Maximum allowable Pitch - Increased

    1. We will now accept homes that have a roof pitch up to 50 degrees (14/12 slope)

    2. Roofs that have been identified with a pitch greater than 45 degrees (46-50) will require the use of a power lift for installation due to safety for the build partners

      1. An additional adder will be included for the rental fees associated with the lift.

DQ parameters:

1. Minimum system size:
Any PV system that cannot fit a minimum of 8 modules is a DQ.

2. Minimum system size with reroof:
Any PV system 4kW and under that has a reroof adder.

3. System does not meet the minimum Total Solar Access:

Minimum of 50% Annual Solar Access per each array. (per Aurora shade report)

4. Steep Roof:
Any roof plane with a tilt over 14/12 (50 degrees) is a DQ

5. Hardscape Trenching:
Hardscape trenching will no longer be utilized to incorporate panels on accessory structures(garage/barn/etc.)

6. Multiple systems on a single structure (regardless of being interconnected to different meters)

Only a single system is permitted on the house regardless of having multiple meters in the following states:

  • Connecticut

  • Massachusetts

  • Rhode Island

7. Apartment buildings and commercial buildings.
8. Mobile/manufactured homes with foundation that has skirts on the edges (home sits on cinder blocks piers supporting metal jacks or Steel framing).
