With the Palmetto app, you can view what your system is doing right now. This data is available alongside your production and consumption insights.
You can view exported energy from the Home section of the app.
Open the Palmetto app.
Select Home from the menu.
Navigate to the Energy Balance section and click "see more energy data"
Choose your preferred view: Day, Week, or Month.
Review your Summary, which reflects how much energy your system produced compared to how much your home consumed during the selected time period.
If your system produces more energy than your home uses, the excess energy shown in your Energy Balance represents energy exported to the grid.
Understanding the energy balance view
In the Energy Balance section, you'll see:
Produced: Total solar energy generated
Consumed: Total solar energy used
Energy Balance: The difference between production and consumption
A negative Energy Balance indicates that your home used more energy than it produced. A positive balanced indicates more energy production than consumption.
Understanding weather overlays
The chart now includes weather context to help you understand what's affecting your system's output on any given day. Tap any of the three toggles above the chart to layer in additional data:
Cloud cover: Shows how much cloud coverage was present throughout the week. Days with heavier cloud cover typically produce less solar energy.
Conditions: Displays general weather conditions (rain, sun, clouds) for each day, so you can see how weather patterns lined up with your production highs and lows.
Temperature: Shows the temperature for each day. Interestingly, solar panels tend to perform better in cooler, sunny weather than in extreme heat.
These overlays don't affect your energy data — they just give you more context for why production might have varied day to day.
Does this replace my utility's export data?
The Palmetto app provides visibility into exported energy based on system performance. However, official data including net metering credits and billing details are still managed by your utility provider. For billing-related export credits, continue to reference your utility bill or utility account portal.
