What is the Palmetto energy backup plan?

What does a backup battery do?

Energy plan details

  • No Upfront Costs: Get a battery system installed with no initial payment.

  • Simple Monthly Payment: Pay a set monthly fee for the duration of your plan (10 or 12 years). There's no interest and no extra charges for maintenance or repairs.

  • Worry-Free Maintenance: Palmetto owns and maintains the equipment, so service, monitoring, and repairs are all included.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to have solar panels to get this plan?

  • Yes, you need to have an existing compatible solar system that will not create any performance issues in order to get this plan. These do not have to be solar panels purchased through Palmetto. If you have existing solar, you'll simply need to acknowledge any related risks in your contract.

What if my existing solar isn't working?

  • The Palmetto Energy Backup Plan is designed to provide power backup and is not meant to fix issues with an existing solar system. If you're having trouble with your current solar setup, we recommend contacting your original solar provider to get it resolved before the battery installation.

Do I own the battery?

  • No. Palmetto owns and maintains the equipment throughout the term of the lease to ensure it remains "worry-free" for you. You do have the option to purchase the equipment at the end of your term.

Will this lower my electric bill?

  • Savings are not guaranteed. The primary benefit of this plan is backup power and energy security, not bill reduction.

What are the available battery models?

  • Tesla Powerwall 3

  • Enphase IQ Battery 10C

Can I cancel my plan?

  • You may cancel your energy backup plan before installation begins. However, early termination is not allowed after installation starts.

End-of-Term options

When your 10 or 12-year term ends, you have four flexible options.

  1. Renew: If you don't take action, your lease automatically renews in 1-year increments for up to 5 years. You can also choose a 3-year renewal at 75% of your final year's payment.

  2. Buy out: At year 15, you can purchase the battery outright for $1,000.

  3. Walk away: Let us know at least 30 days before your lease ends. You can buy out the battery (price depends on lease age, ranging from 10% to 22% of the original financed cost), or have it removed for a $1,000 removal fee.

  4. Upgrade: Start a new lease with updated equipment and receive a 25% credit for payments made during any renewal terms toward your new agreement.
