How to Cancel or Transfer Your Solar Lease Agreement

We understand that circumstances change, and you may need to consider canceling your Palmetto Energy Plan lease agreement. We want to ensure you have all the information necessary to make informed decisions about your solar investment. Below is a clear guide on your cancellation options and what to expect. Solar agreements are formal legal contracts, not month-to-month subscriptions. Once signed, these agreements are binding for their full term, and changes or termination must adhere to the terms outlined in your contract.

Key Information: Cancellation Rights

Your ability to cancel your solar lease agreement depends on the stage of your project:

  • Within 10 Days of Signing: You may terminate your solar lease agreement without penalty or obligation if canceled within 10 days of the signed agreement date.

  • Before Installation Begins: You may still cancel your agreement prior to installation. Please refer to your specific contract terms for any conditions that may apply.

  • Once Installation Has Started: Cancellation is no longer permitted once the installation process has begun.

How to Cancel Your Agreement

If you meet the eligibility criteria for cancellation, written confirmation is required to begin the process. You can submit your cancellation request by replying to the email sent by Palmetto or contacting our Homeowner Support team through any of our support channels — including chat or the Palmetto mobile app.

Once we receive your written request, our Homeowner Support team will guide you through the next steps, which may include:

  1. Confirmation of Eligibility: We'll review your account to confirm cancellation is available based on your project stage and contract terms.

  2. Review of Any Applicable Terms: If your contract includes specific conditions related to cancellation, our team will walk you through them.

  3. Final Documentation (If Applicable): Depending on your situation, you may be asked to sign a termination agreement to finalize the cancellation.

  4. Equipment Return (If Applicable): If any equipment was provided prior to installation that needs to be returned, we'll provide clear instructions on the return process.

  5. Cancellation Confirmation: Once your request has been fully processed, we'll send you a confirmation that your agreement has been terminated.

Transferring Your Palmetto Energy Plan Lease Agreement

If you are selling your home, your Palmetto Energy Plan lease agreement can be transferred or bought out as part of the sale.

  • Lease Agreement Transfer: The new homeowner must meet Palmetto's underwriting requirements including a credit check. Once approved, they will assume your existing lease with all benefits and warranties included.

  • Solar System Pre-payment or Buyout: You can either prepay your remaining lease payments (Palmetto retains ownership and service responsibility) or buy out the system entirely (you gain ownership, and Palmetto's service obligations cease).

Important Notes for Selling Your Home:

  • You may NOT move the system to a new home. Doing so would be a lease violation and would make you responsible for paying the system's fair market value at the time of signing.

  • If you desire solar at your new home, we can provide a separate agreement based on that property's specific conditions.

  • Notification Requirement: You must provide at least 15 days prior written notice if you plan to have someone assume your lease obligations. A written transfer agreement must be signed by you, the approved buyer, and Palmetto. Unless explicitly released in writing, you remain responsible for the lease until this agreement is signed and the new owner is approved. If the buyer defaults before the transfer agreement is signed, you will still be responsible.

  • If You Cannot Meet These Options: If none of the above options are met during a home sale, you will be in default under the lease agreement.

  • In the event of the leaseholder's passing: The obligations under this lease transfer to the estate, and the agreement remains in effect.
