We understand that circumstances change and you may need to cancel or transfer your Solar Lease Agreement. We want to be sure you have all the information you need to make informed decisions about your investment. Below is a clear guide on your options and what to expect.
Key Information About Cancellation
Cancellation Rights:
You may terminate your solar lease agreement without penalty or obligation if canceled within 10 days of the signed agreement date.
You may also cancel before installation begins, but a cancellation fee will apply.
Once installation has started, cancellation is no longer permitted.
Cancellation Fee: If installation has not begun, but you still wish to cancel after the 10-day period, a cancellation fee will apply to cover associated costs.
Special Cases:
If you’re in California, state regulations may prevent cancellation.
If you're selling your home, see the details below regarding lease transfer options.
Selling Your Home
If you sell your home, you have two options regarding your solar lease:
Transfer the Lease and Monthly Payments
If the buyer of your home meets LightReach's underwriting requirements, they can assume your lease, including all rights and obligations, where permitted by the local electric utility.
If the buyer does not meet LightReach's underwriting requirements, LightReach may, at its discretion:
Remove the system OR
Offer alternate solutions while preserving its rights under the lease.
If you sell your home or transfer the lease without LightReach’s written approval, you will be in default of the lease.
The new homeowner will benefit from the same lease rate as outlined in your agreement.
Prepay the Lease and Transfer the System’s Use
If the buyer does not meet underwriting requirements but still wants the system, you may prepay the remaining lease payments and include the cost in your home’s sale price.
You may NOT move the system to a new home. Doing so would be a lease violation, making you responsible for paying the system's fair market value at the time of signing.
If you want solar at your new home, we can provide a separate agreement based on your new property’s conditions.
Notification Requirement
You must provide LightReach at least 15 days prior written notice if you plan to have someone assume your lease obligations.
You, the approved buyer, and LightReach must sign a written transfer agreement.
Unless released in writing, you remain responsible for the lease until a transfer agreement is signed and the new owner is approved.
If the buyer defaults before the transfer agreement is signed, you will still be responsible.
If You Cannot Meet These Options
If none of the above options are met, you will be in default under the lease agreement.
In the event of the leaseholder’s passing, the obligations under this lease transfer to the estate, and the agreement remains in effect.
