How to Cancel or Transfer Your Solar Lease Agreement

Updated this week

We understand that circumstances change, and you may need to consider canceling your LightReach lease agreement. We want to ensure you have all the information necessary to make informed decisions about your solar investment. Below is a clear guide on your cancellation options and what to expect.

Key Information: Cancellation Rights

Your ability to cancel your solar lease agreement depends on the stage of your project:

  • Within 10 Days of Signing: You may terminate your solar lease agreement without penalty or obligation if canceled within 10 days of the signed agreement date.

  • Before Installation Begins (After 10 Days): You may still cancel your agreement, but a cancellation fee will apply to cover associated costs incurred.

  • Once Installation Has Started: Cancellation is no longer permitted once the installation process has begun.

Special Cases:

  • If you are in California, please be aware that state regulations may prevent cancellation under certain circumstances. Always refer to your specific agreement and state laws.

How to Cancel Your Agreement

If you meet the eligibility criteria for cancellation:

  1. Submit a Written Cancellation Request: Send your request via:

  2. Receive a Cancellation Quote (If Applicable): If installation has not begun but your cancellation request is made outside the initial 10-day period, we will provide you with a quote outlining any applicable cancellation fees.

  3. Confirm and Make Payment (If Applicable): Once you accept the cancellation quote, we will provide detailed instructions for making the required payment.

  4. Sign the Termination Agreement (If Applicable): Upon successful receipt of any applicable payment, you will be required to sign a formal termination agreement to finalize the cancellation.

  5. Return Equipment (If Applicable): If any equipment was provided to you prior to installation that needs to be returned, we will provide clear instructions on the return process.

  6. Receive Cancellation Confirmation: We will send you a confirmation once your cancellation request has been fully processed and your agreement is terminated.

Transferring Your LightReach Lease Agreement

If you are selling your home, your LightReach lease agreement can be transferred or bought out as part of the sale.

  • Lease Agreement Transfer: The new homeowner must meet LightReach's underwriting requirements including a credit check. Once approved, they will assume your existing lease with all benefits and warranties included.

  • Solar System Pre-payment or Buyout: You can either prepay your remaining lease payments (LightReach retains ownership and service responsibility) or buy out the system entirely (you gain ownership, and LightReach's service obligations cease).

Important Notes for Selling Your Home:

  • You may NOT move the system to a new home. Doing so would be a lease violation and would make you responsible for paying the system's fair market value at the time of signing.

  • If you desire solar at your new home, we can provide a separate agreement based on that property's specific conditions.

  • Notification Requirement: You must provide at least 15 days prior written notice if you plan to have someone assume your lease obligations. A written transfer agreement must be signed by you, the approved buyer, and Palmetto LightReach. Unless explicitly released in writing, you remain responsible for the lease until this agreement is signed and the new owner is approved. If the buyer defaults before the transfer agreement is signed, you will still be responsible.

  • If You Cannot Meet These Options: If none of the above options are met during a home sale, you will be in default under the lease agreement.

  • In the event of the leaseholder’s passing: The obligations under this lease transfer to the estate, and the agreement remains in effect.
