Your system is working as expected. This is a quick update that gives it a faster, steadier monitoring connection, and it only takes a few minutes.
Why make the switch
Most solar systems send performance data to us over a cellular connection. This works, but signals can be inconsistent, and cellular has limited bandwidth for things like software updates.
Switching to Wi-Fi gives you a faster, more reliable connection to our monitoring platform and gives us a clearer picture of how your system is doing. For some equipment, a Wi-Fi connection is part of the manufacturer's warranty requirements.
Your system only sends performance data to our monitoring platform. It doesn't have access to your other devices, your files, or anything else on your network. It works the same way a smart thermostat or security camera would.
After you switch, your home Wi-Fi becomes the main connection, and cellular stays on as a backup. If your Wi-Fi ever goes down, your system automatically switches to cellular, so there's nothing you need to do.
Benefits of monitoring over Wi-Fi
We can spot things sooner
With a steadier connection, we can notice anything unusual early and often take care of it remotely.
Updates happen on their own
Wi-Fi enables automatic software updates. Instead of waiting for a technician visit to keep your system current, updates happen in the background.
Fewer service visits
Better connectivity means most troubleshooting can happen remotely, so visits are saved for things that truly need hands-on attention.
How to connect to Wi-Fi
Before you start
Download the app: Install the latest version of the Enphase or mySolarEdge app from the iOS App Store or Google Play Store.
Have your login ready: Have your Enphase or SolarEdge account email and password handy (if you don't have these, reach out to your installer).
Prepare your Wi-Fi details: Find your home Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password.
Use 2.4GHz Wi-Fi: Your solar equipment only connects to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. Make sure your router is broadcasting a 2.4GHz network and your phone is connected to it before you begin.
Stand near your inverter: Setup often uses a short-range Bluetooth connection, so start next to your inverter.
Enphase
Enphase
You'll do this through the Enphase app, the whole process takes about two minutes.
Open the Enphase app and log in.
Go to Menu > System > Devices > Gateway > Configure Wi-Fi. If you don't see this path, make sure your app is updated.
Select your home Wi-Fi network.
Enter your Wi-Fi password. If it doesn't connect on the first try, double-check that your password is entered correctly. Passwords are case-sensitive.
Wait for the app to confirm the connection. It usually takes a minute or two.
A brief monitoring gap right after the switch is normal. The connection usually stabilizes within a few minutes.
SolarEdge
SolarEdge
Important: Some older SolarEdge inverters aren't set up for Wi-Fi yet. If you don't see the Wi-Fi option in your app, your system will keep reporting over cellular. Chat with us and we'll confirm what's right for your setup.
You'll do this through the mySolarEdge app. The whole process takes about two minutes.
Open the mySolarEdge app and log in.
Go to Settings > Communication > Wi-Fi. You can also select Inverter Communication and scan the QR code on your inverter to pull up settings directly.
Select your home Wi-Fi network.
Enter your Wi-Fi password. If it doesn't connect on the first try, double-check that your password is entered correctly. Passwords are case-sensitive.
The app will confirm when the connection is active. SolarEdge's Autoselect feature automatically sets Wi-Fi as the primary connection. Cellular drops to backup on its own.
If you have a SolarEdge battery (StorEdge or Energy Hub): SolarEdge requires battery systems to stay connected to monitoring as part of the battery warranty. Wi-Fi helps keep that connection steady.
Manage your home energy with the Palmetto App!
While the manufacturer app is required to reconfigure your inverter's Wi-Fi network, the Palmetto App gives you full visibility into your solar performance. Use Palmetto to track daily production, monitor whole-home energy trends, earn savings rewards, and access dedicated customer support all in one place.
Frequently asked questions
Will this slow down my internet?
No. Your solar system only sends small amounts of monitoring data. You won't notice any difference on your home network.
What if I change my Wi-Fi password or get a new router?
Your system will temporarily fall back to cellular while the Wi-Fi connection is down. To restore Wi-Fi as the primary connection, follow the steps above to update your network settings in your app. This is the most common reason monitoring gaps happen, so it's worth updating your settings promptly whenever you make network changes at home. If you're not sure how, contact us and we'll walk you through it.
What if my Wi-Fi goes out for a few days?
Your system automatically falls back to cellular and keeps reporting. Once your Wi-Fi comes back, it reconnects on its own. You won't lose any monitoring data.
My router is far from my solar equipment. Will the signal reach?
It depends on your home layout. If your inverter is in a detached garage or on the opposite end of the house from your router, the signal may be too weak for a stable connection. Let us know your setup before you try we can check whether Wi-Fi will work reliably for you.
