Managing your billing should be simple and straightforward. This guide explains what to expect from your Palmetto bill, how payments work, and where to find your account information.
Your First Bill
You can expect to receive your first bill 15–30 days after your system's Operational At date — the point when your system begins producing measurable energy.
You can find your exact first payment due date in the Billing section of your Palmetto account at home.palmetto.com/finance-accounts.
If your system was recently transferred to you, your billing section may take a little time to show up in your account.
Account Details
In the Billing section of your online Palmetto account or mobile app you can view:
Plan Information
Your energy plan type
Account number
Monthly payment amount
Annual rate escalator
The Annual Rate Escalator is a pre-determined rate between 0–3.5%, that increases your monthly payment by a fixed percentage each calendar year.
Setting up your payment method
During onboarding, you'll see a prompt on your dashboard to start payment setup.
Here's how it works:
Enter the payment setup flow.
Choose your payment method: ACH bank transfer, debit card, or credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or AMEX).
For ACH: enter your bank details, including account type (checking or savings), account number, and routing number. Some banks may require a photo of a voided check.
For debit or credit card: enter your card number, expiration date, CVV, name, and ZIP code.
Paying by credit card adds a 3% processing fee. Debit cards have no processing fee.
Updating your payment method
You can update your payment method anytime by clicking the pencil icon and entering your bank account details.
You can update your payment method anytime by clicking the pencil icon and entering your bank account details.
You can add a credit or debit card and make one-time payments directly in the Palmetto app. If your account has a past-due balance, tap Pay Now under Payment Information to bring your account current.
All customers are enrolled in autopay during account setup. If autopay is turned off, the $15 autopay discount no longer applies. If you wish to re-enroll you'll see a "Turn on autopay" button — tap it to re-enroll in one step.
Making a one-time payment
If your account has a past-due balance, you can make a one-time payment directly in the Palmetto app. Tap Pay Now under Payment Information, choose the amount (full balance, past-due only, or custom), select ACH or a credit/debit card, and submit.
Billing Timeline
Your next invoice becomes available about 20 days before the due date.
Payments are charged automatically on the due date listed on the invoice.
If your account is current, it will show a $0 balance due until the next bill is generated.
Transactions, Statements & Documents
Transactions: displays all payments and credits applied to your account, including the date, description, payment status, and transaction amount.
Statements: Contains all of your invoices. Select View to open or download the invoice for a specific billing period.
Documents: Lists your signed agreements and disclosures in one convenient location.
Electronic Statements
Beginning January 2026, all statements will be delivered by email each month.
If you prefer paper statements, please let us know!
You can always view digital statements under the Statements section on the billing page by selecting View next to the statement date.
Failed Payments
If a payment fails, your account will display a notification along with the option to update your payment method. Once you update your payment information, a retry will happen immediately. If you choose not to update your payment method, another payment attempt will automatically occur after 5 days.
If your autopay due date falls on a non-banking day (e.g., Sunday), the payment will process on the next business day, and your account will remain current during this time. Additionally, a temporary past-due status may display if there is a delay in updating your payment status, such as over weekends. The correct status should appear once the system refreshes.
If your payment is more than 10 days past its due date, you will see a failed payment status and the next payment due. Once this overdue bill is successfully paid, your Payment History will reflect the updated status.
Pending payments
If you've submitted a payment and it hasn't processed yet, it will show up in your Transactions tab with a Pending badge.
You can cancel a pending payment directly in the app.
To cancel a pending payment:
Go to Billing in the app.
Open the Transactions tab.
Find the payment marked Pending.
Select Cancel next to it.
Once a payment has processed, it can't be cancelled.
Late fees
Late fees apply if payment is not received within 20 days of the due date.
A $25 late fee is charged beginning on Day 20 and continues until the balance is paid in full.
Accounts more than 120 days past due may be reported to credit agencies.
Frequently Asked Questions
Autopay-Specific Questions
Why do I still receive statements if I'm on autopay? Statements are sent for your records and to inform you of upcoming payment dates.
What happens if I don't manually activate autopay? All customers are automatically enrolled in autopay during the verification process.
How can I confirm my payment setup? You can view and update your payment method anytime in the Billing section of the Palmetto app.
Will I still receive a utility bill?
Yes. You will receive two bills:
Palmetto: For your solar energy plan payments.
Utility Company: For grid connection and any electricity used when solar production is low (ex: cloudy days, nighttime)
You'll remain connected to the grid and a utility customer, even with solar. Most solar users still purchase some energy and owe the utility customer fees, which vary. Contact your local utility for details.
How do I get solar credits and incentive payments?
Your utility company—not Palmetto—is responsible for issuing solar credits or overproduction payments.
Credits won't appear until your system is fully activated and commissioned after Permission to Operate (PTO). If you're not seeing credits:
Check your utility bill
Confirm your system is producing energy
Submit any documents required by your utility
